Back when guys like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon were rookies, not to mention Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Sanders, and many others, there were no autograph cards inserted into packs or boxes as hobby chases and investments.

So the older rookie cards and classic non-rookies of these legends and retired players have been signed by them after being pulled from a pack, usually at a PSA or Beckett Witnessed signing event of some sort.

Then they're slabbed, and sometimes have a card grade as well.
