Top Sports Card Buys Of The Week (August 7-14)

As August kicks into gear sports card collectors and investors find themselves at an exciting point in the sport cycle to make plays. With the MLB postseason push heating up, the NBA regular season looming, and NFL training camp in full effect, there is likely a play for you no matter what your cup of tea is. Let’s hop into our suggestions for this week's buys. 1. Roman Anthony: 2023 Bowman Chrome Prospects (1st) #BCP-71 PSA 10 Now is the time to stock up on baseball prospects that we believe will not be called up until next season. Anthony, a 19-year-old outfielder with some pop, has shown strong promise in the Boston Red Sox farm system, and is a great option to secure now. His 2023 Bowman Chrome Prospects is trading at $71 and provides investors easy flipping upside as he awaits his next callup. 2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 2018 Optic Base #162 PSA 10 Making his second appearance in our buy recommendation list in as many weeks, Gilgeous-Alexander’s prices continue to sneakily sit below market value. This week we’re going to be pitching his 2018 Optic Base in PSA 10, which is selling at just $35. The Thunder’s smaller market could be advantageously factoring into SGA’s lack of current hype, but with Chet Holmgren back healthy and the rest of the Thunder’s young core having another year under their belt, we expect him to build on what was already a 1st-Team All-NBA season and cement himself as an elite guard in the NBA. 3. Ja Morant: 2019 Donruss Base #202 PSA 10 While low-risk investors may be pessimistic towards investing in Morant with the young star earning his second suspension for offseason antics, his 2019 Donruss Base in PSA 10 offers extremely high upside without requiring excess upfront capital. This card was selling for over $100 in September of 2022, but can be picked up now for under $40. We believe that this dip is as low as this card will go, and Morant is simply too talented to not bring the card back to normal values once he returns from suspension. Look for even higher upside if Morant can stay on an extended clean streak and continue to build the Grizzlies presence in the league alongside sharpshooter Desmond Bane. 4. Shaedon Sharpe: 2022 Prizm Base #250 PSA 10 With Damian Lillard’s future in question, Sharpe’s exciting rookie season and continued Summer League performances are sitting squarely below the radar, making the athletic wing an ideal pickup. Sharpe, while not posting excellent rookie numbers, provides the Blazers with a scoring punch and seemingly limitless highlight plays. Look for Sharpe’s values to jump as he sees an extended role in the 2023-2024 season, and bet on hype to build through his Canadian background and Kentucky Wildcat fan base and help increase his card value. His 2022 Prizm Base in PSA 10 is down 18.9% over the last 30 days, making now the time to buy. 5. Giannis Antetekoumpo: 2013 Select Base #178 PSA 10 Not only will pairing Antetekoumpo plays with the aforementioned options provide your portfolio with diversity, The Greek Freak gives investors peace of mind through clear listing indicators. Based on historical data, picking up household stars now will provide flippers with strong sell opportunities in February. Furthermore, you can stack up on multiple options, sell a portion in February, and hold your other cards in hopes of a Bucks deep playoff push in April providing more profit opportunity. Antetokounmpo's Select Base rookie card in PSA 10 has been trending down since selling for $700 in September of last year, and can be picked up now at a fraction of the cost.
