Contributed by Conner Barnett Selected third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft, Trey Lance entered the league as a promising dual threat quarterback with a cannon of an arm. Lance began his career as a backup to 49ers starter Jimmy Garoppolo, but was quickly thrown into action in week 4 of the 2021 season after Jimmy G was sidelined to injury. Unfortunately Lance was also moved to the injury report with a knee sprain, and didn’t see the field again for several weeks. Lance was named the team’s starter going into the 2022 season, but was yet again forced off the field with a season-ending ankle injury. While optimism is still present for the relatively inexperienced young quarterback, the 49ers have decided to go in a new direction, trading Lance to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 4th round pick.
